2.5 Special Considerations
Sexual assault survivors from different groups or from within a specific country, culture or community have special considerations that advocates need to consider.
In this section, we will explore considerations for dealing with survivors from populations who require additional advocacy, including how to support survivors under the age of 18 and survivors from the LGBTQIA community.
Sexual assault and other crimes motivated by the actual or perceived race, color, religion, national origin, ethnicity, gender, disability or sexual orientation of any person are called hate crimes.
Many countries have laws that specifically identify hate crimes and seek to protect all their citizens from being targeted for their diversity.
