4.5.1 Materials
The following materials are standard in a Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kit (most of them should be locally available through pharmacies or wholesale medical supply shops):
Sexual assault evidence collection kit instructions;
Personal protection equipment (gloves);
Cotton-tipped swabs with wooden sticks;
A stable stand for swabs to air-dry;
A slide stand;
Slide labels;
Red stickers;
A permanent black marker;
A black, ink pen;
A large white envelope;
A blood standard envelope;
A head hair standard envelope;
An oral swabs envelope;
Miscellaneous envelopes;
A pubic hair combings and comb envelopes;
An anal swab envelope;
A vaginal swabs envelope;
A cervical swabs envelope;
A male genitalia swabs envelope;
A table sheet for the patient during the internal exam;
Extra envelopes;
Pre-labeled brown bag;
A floor sheet;
A floor sheet bag;
A table sheet;
A table sheet bag;
Two paper sheets;
A pubic hair comb;
Sterile water;
A stapler;
Tape;
An alternate light source or woods lamp;
Bags for undergarments and clothing;
Exam and evidence collection checklists;
A sexual assault history form; and
A camera.
Label the envelopes, and ensure all the forms and instructions are clearly printed. Assemble all the materials into a small box, and seal the box, marking as detailed below.
